Pre-season testing in Bahrain has officially concluded. The three-day testing featured power outages, dramatic weather changes, and surprising lap times done by various teams. To understand its significance, pre-season testing allows drivers and teams to acquaint themselves with their 2025 car at the Bahrain race circuit. Teams can experiment with different set-ups on the car, gather insights, and develop their car ahead of the season kick-off on March 13th in Melbourne, Australia. However, pre-season testing is not an exact indicator of performance throughout the season, as fuel loads and strategies remain unknown. So, what can we take away from this?

At the moment, McLaren appears to be the strongest team. They have had smooth operations throughout the three days, with two confident drivers–Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. According to the official Formula 1 analysis, they have the quickest car on low fuel. However, the CEO, Zak Brown, has claimed that, “I can see it being super competitive, last year four teams won multiple races, this year I could see that being more.” Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull have also shined during testing with both rookie Kimi Antonelli and George Russell topping the timesheets, as well as Hamilton comfortably cruising through the track beating his own records. Alongside these four dominant teams, two more teams are seen rising to the challenge: Williams and Alpine.

Carlos Sainz set the fastest overall time of the three-day testing, with a 1:29.348. Additionally, Alex Albon occasionally topped the charts with the fastest lap. He shared, "We feel like we are in a good place. But it's a weird one, we felt good last year and then the year didn't go how we wanted it to but yet the mood is good. The journey is a long one. Hopefully when the regulation changes happen, with the experience Carlos and I have, we can do something great."

Alpine has also shown promising signs, with their drivers placing within the top ten fastest laps every day. After a strong 2024 season that included a double-podium in rainy Sao Paulo, the team seems to be making solid improvements. During the PM session on Day 3, Pierre Gasly recorded the fifth-fastest time, only +0.495 behind George Russell’s top lap of 1:29.545.

With the potential addition of Williams and Alpine to the established top four – McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes – this season could become one of the most competitive in F1 history! Tune in to find out the real answer during the first Grand Prix of the year in Melbourne!
