Oscar Piastri won the Chinese Grand Prix, leading a McLaren one-two finish in Shanghai. The 56-lap race, though not as chaotic as Melbourne, delivered exciting battles and strategic maneuvers.
Starting from his maiden pole position, Piastri got off to a strong start, while his teammate Lando Norris climbed from fourth to second. Early on, Leclerc collided with Hamilton, damaging his front wing. Meanwhile, Alonso’s race ended as his brakes overheated, forcing him to retire.
Pit stop strategies played a key role. When Piastri pitted, Norris took the lead, followed briefly by Albon, as Leclerc and Norris made their stops. Piastri soon regained control at the front, with Norris and Russell engaging in a thrilling overtaking battle behind him. Hamilton was also asked to swap places with Leclerc as Ferrari strategized.
Further down the field, Bearman impressed with bold moves, notably overtaking Lawson in the Red Bull while joking “Ciao!” over the radio. His pace on the medium tires saw him make several crucial passes, putting him into the points. Stroll also delivered a solid drive, while Tsunoda suffered front-wing damage after getting caught in Sainz’s turbulent air. Doohan, however, received a 10-second penalty for forcing Hadjar off track during their overtaking battle.
With this victory, Piastri secured his third career win and strengthened McLaren’s championship hopes in an increasingly competitive season.
